Hailing from Youngstown, OH, Matthew Peaslee is an ambitious individual. From the ripe age of 14 he knew exactly what his future career would be, something in the field of journalism.
After four years as a sports and features writer for The Irish Times, the official student newspaper of Ursuline High School, Peaslee graduated near the top of his class.
He followed the famed “Country Roads” to Morgantown, WV where h enrolled at West Virginia University. A family tradition of sorts, WVU is integral to the Peaslee family whether it be cheering on the Mountaineers or, more importantly, focusing on receiving a quality education.
As a senior public relations major in the P.I. Reed School of Journalism Peaslee as taken advantage of many opportunities at WVU.
He is a sports writer at The Daily Athenaeum and has covered the Mountaineer swimming, gymnastics, baseball, soccer, basketball and currently football team. Peaslee also is a tour guide at the WVU Visitors Resource Center giving tours to perspective students and their families. He also spent time at the campus radio station, U-92, where he was a sports reporter.
In the near future Peaslee sees himself working in a large metropolitan area for a sports team, PR agency or university in the Communications department.
He is a die hard supporter of the Pittsburgh professional sports teams and also writes an award winning blog on the Pittsburgh Pirates.
